About this course
Content
The course deals with project management and project delivery models in light of the ongoing digital shift. Compared to a traditional construction process, this gives new opportunities and challenges. The new situation changes roles and responsibilities between actors. The course focusses project management's new role in a digital construction process. After the course, candidates shall be able to work in project manager roles in this digitized process for a building project. Furthermore, they shall learn about the new project delivery models that is needed to make sure we can harvest the effect of digitized work processes.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, participants shall independently have knowledge about:
- Project management based on digital information flow.
- Roles and responsibilities in a digitized construction process.
- Project delivery models for digitized construction processes/ digitized projects in a project based organization
- To be a leader in a digitized and industrialized construction process.
- Collaboration strategies and working styles for efficient exploitation of BIM
- Evaluating competence and capabilities for digital collaboration
- Selected methods and tools for planning and management of single projects.
Skills to:
- Establish and apply principles for control of a project with digital information flow.
- Use digital tools to plan and control a project.
- Use digital tools to plan progress and cost estimates for a single building project based on digital model (to master the principles of 4D and 5D-BIM).
General competence to:
- Assess the effect of digitization on project management and the roles in the project.
- Analyze opportunities and limitations that lies in different project delivery models.
Teaching methods
The course utilizes project based and problem based learning. This includes lectures, exercises, individual studies, group work and discussions. Case studies from real cases in the building, construction and infrastructure industry are utilized. Great emphasis is put on discussion and cooperation between the course participants, as per the CDIO principals. Students present scientific articles. Software and digital tools available in the NTNU BIM-lab will be used in the course. Software for the project assignment is chosen after consultation with the course coordinator. The student groups present their projects on the last day of the course.
