Content

The objective of the course is to guide students to the frameworks and mechanisms of managing organisations based on knowledgeable production processes. This includes theories, principles, and models of improvement issues, and patterns of society, organizational culture, and practices. The upcoming fourth industrial revolution is central in the understanding of manufacturing management.
The course will cover the following topics:

Triple, Quadruple and Quintuple Helix
The Nordic Work-life Model
Operation Strategy

Organizational Design and Culture

Expected learning outcomes:
After completing the course, the student is supposed to:
- Knowledge
Have thorough knowledge of concepts, theories and frameworks about Manufacturing Management.
Have thorough knowledge of how the different levels, macro/meso/micro, are mutual dependence of each other and influence each other.
Have thorough knowledge of operation management and improvement theories
Have thorough knowledge of leadership of advanced manufacturing business
Have acquired knowledge of different forms of organizational culture.
Have acquired knowledge of Industry 4.0

Be able to analyse different organizational structures for manufacturing industries from management perspective.
Be able to use operation strategy and improvement theories to gain competitive advantages.
Recognise factors in product and service development.
Recognise factors that promote good and sustainable leadership of knowledge intensive businesses.
- General competence
The candidate can analyse relevant academic, practical and professional problems related to manufacturing management.
The candidate can identify and manage issues where effectiveness and efficiency are essential for competitive performance of knowledgeable companies
The candidates can apply acquired knowledge and skills in new demanding assignments and projects.
Teaching methods
Teaching Methods:
Lectures, tutoring and group works including learning factory assignments.
This will be held on campus, but made available for remote students via NTNUs digital learning management system
In addition, for remote students there will be at least one gathering at campus with mandatory attendance.
Form of assessment:
Exam essay
Grading Scale:
Alphabetical Scale, A (best) F (fail)
External/internal examiner:
Internal examiner. Additional external examiner every four years, first in 2021.
Re-sit examination:
New improved essay within one month
Coursework Requirements:
Two approved essays
