About this course

Content

After the course, the students should have knowledge of the user’s and their needs, and be able to relate the user requirements to social factors and the built environment, to transform them to functional and performance requirement, and use relevant indicators for assessment. The achieved understanding for and knowledge of the sustainable buildings and development of more sustainable built environment should enable the students to use qualitative as well as quantitative assessments in both procurement and decision making with a holistic approach. - Human factors in the built environment and post occupancy evaluation - Qualitative and quantitative sustainability performance indicators, weighting and assessment systems for products, systems and buildings and other construction works - Public procurement for sustainable built environment. - the use of resources and environmental impact in the life cycle of buildings and built environment

Learning outcomes

• Knowledge of human factors in the built environment • Advanced knowledge of qualitative and quantitative sustainability performance indicators for products, systems and buildings and other construction works • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative sustainability indicators for construction work • Advanced knowledge on procurement for sustainable built environment. (procuring of architects and engineering as well as construction) • Knowledge of information sources, quality and uncertainty • Advanced knowledge on the use of resources and environmental impact in the life cycle of buildings and built environment and measures to minimize this • Ability to select and use indicators for different Sustainability performance assessment on built environment for different purpose, different levels and different stages/phases. • Ability to choose products and systems according to user requirement and sustainability performance • Ability to plan and perform post occupancy evaluation (POE) • Ability to supply procurement solutions for sustainable built environment General competence: • understand how assessments can support the development of sustainable built environment

Teaching methods

The course will be made accessible for both campus- and remote students. Every student is free to choose the pedagogic arrangement from that is best fitted for her/his own requirement. Seminars in the course will be given on campus and are open for both categories of students through web conference-systems (Eluminate, Adobe Connect etc). In addition, for remote students there will be at least one gathering at campus with mandatory attendance. In case of less than 4 students, the course will be based on self study. All hand-ins, reports and examination must be delivered in English. Participation in Seminars are mandatory.
