About this course
Content
This course will help you improve your oral and written English for use in business and management situations. The course will focus on fundamentals of business English such as types of communication, oral and written presentation skills, effective communication in English in a global business environment and the influence of culture on workplace and business communication. The course will include issues covering a wide range of current business and economic situations
Learning outcomes
Knowledge: Students should
- understand the role of English in international work places
- understand how a variety of language is used for particular communication situations and be able to choose language appropriate for diverse contexts
Skills: students should have the
- ability to use a wide variety of
- ability to discuss the role of English in national and international workplaces
- ability to write original texts in English appropriate for a range of contexts
- ability to evaluate the appropriateness of language used in diverse business and management settings
- ability to communicate to a wider audience both spoken and in writing
General Competence: Students should be able
- to justify their own choices regarding language and presentation
- to successfully present in English both written and spoken using a wide range of vocabulary and a high degree of grammatical accuracy
Teaching methods
Students will build their business and management vocabulary through assigned readings and mandatory written and oral assignments. There will be take-home assignments to help students improve their written English skills, as well as their oral presentation skills.
Active class presentation is expected and necessary to achieve the expected learning outcome.
The course will be taught in intensive sessions throughout the semester with take home assignments in between sessions.
