Spanish Language Proficiency and Grammar

This course focuses on students’ language skills, both oral and written, through student-active learning. The central subject-didactic perspectives in this course are language-learning and language use in relation to different topics and communication situations.

KNOWLEDGE

The candidate:

• has knowledge of Spanish language and is aware of differences between Norwegian and Spanish language structures
• has knowledge of central aspects of Spanish grammar
• has the vocabulary to be able to discuss familiar topics in Spanish
• has subject and subject-didactic knowledge which allows them to vary teaching methods in the Spanish classroom, also in relation to the current national curriculum
• has knowledge about how evaluation can be used as a tool for learning

SKILLS

The candidate:

• can communicate in written and oral Spanish
• can analyze simple sentences in Spanish
• can use the Spanish verb system to talk about events in the past, present, and future
• can adjust their language teaching to include different types of assignments
• can use digital resources in language teaching
• can reflect critically on their own teaching practices and how these can be further developed

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

After the completed course, the student will:

• have mastered correct language use, oral and written, about familiar topics
• be able to plan and carry out tasks related to language learning

The course offers online teaching over 13 weeks. The course has online teaching units, which cover the various topics introduced in the course. Teaching will be largely based on student activities, with assignments including videos, blogs, and individual and group written assignments.

The obligatory assignments are a combination of written and oral exercises. Information will be given at the start of the semester. Obligatory activities cover various aspects of the course, and students are given oral or written feedback on these by video or on the digital learning platform. Assignments are assessed as approved/not approved, and all obligatory assignments must be approved in order for the student to qualify to take the exam. Two of the obligatory assignments are subject to revision based on feedback and will be submitted in the exam portfolio at the end of the semester.

Students will have contact with the instructor and other students via the blog, discussion forum, email, and the digital classroom.

This is a fully online course and has no in-person instruction. There will be 4-5 online meetings in the course, in addition to those related to the obligatory assignments. 75 % attendance is mandatory. Absences beyond this must be documented.
