Rural Studies

This course will provide an introduction to the main trends in Norwegian rural communities. The course will discuss recent Norwegian and international research that sheds light on how social, cultural, political and economic processes of change affect rural life, mobility and the relationship between the rural and urban. The course will cover topcial issues that will vary from time to time. The term assignment will be an essay on a topic taught during the course.

Knowledge - the student shall have:
- Theoretical and empirical knowledge about central discussions in the Norwegian and international rural sociology
- Understanding of how various processes affect rural life and rural communities
Skills - the student shall demonstrate the ability to:
- Accomplish and present one of the themes addressed in teaching in an independent and reflective manner through written work
- Present relevant subject matters in oral form

Lectures and seminars. If few students attend the course the two first weeeks of teaching, the course will be given as an individual study course with supervision. Please contact the departement for further information.
