Ethnicity, Migration and Religion

In this course we focus on themes related to interethnic relations, causes and consequences of international migration, as well as themes related to religion’s functioning as marker of group belonging. We shall present and discuss central theories of migration and we shall also focus on concrete social, economic and political consequences of international migration.

Knowledge - the student shall:
-Know most influential theories of migration
-Have knowledge about differences between ethnic majority population and immigrants in Norway with regard to central socio-economic indicators
Skills - the student shall demonstrate the ability to:
-Treat one of the themes which have been discussed during instruction in an independent and reflective manner through written work
-Discuss own work and work of others in oral and written form

Lectures and seminars. If few students attend the course the two first weeeks of teaching, the course will be given as an individual study course with supervision. Please contact the departement for further information.
