About this course

Content

- Introduction to quality management concepts, the role of quality in production of goods and services

- Core principles of quality: customers, employees and processes

- ISO standards and statistical process control (SPC)

- Lean management, thinking and tools, including continuous improvement

- Performance Measurement and usage of data

Learning outcomes

By passing the course the student should have achieved following learning outcomes:

Knowledge of:

- the theory of Total Quality Management and Lean, including principles and tools,

- how to analyze quality in a product/service and the manufacturing process,

- how to improve quality of a product/service/process,

- the relationship between customer needs and quality in the products,

- how businesses are organized and managed to deliver quality to the customer.

Skills:

Be able to identify the connection between customer needs and quality.

Could identify improvements in work processes and/or quality for a product/service.

Explain the relationship between the organization's structure, work processes and the organization's goals/strategy.

Knowledge of ISO standards, SPC and toolbox in quality management and lean.

General competence:

Understand, apply and improve quality management systems.

Have a good understanding of how to work together in teams to reach common goals.

Knowledge of the quality management system and how this work together with other parts of the organization.

Teaching methods

The learning style in the course has student active learning in focus. In addition to the syllabus, learning resources in Canvas are important parts of the course. A "flipped classroom scheme" gives the student the opportunity to immerse himself in the subject at his own pace ahead of seminars where the subject matter is worked on together with fellow students and subject teachers. Seminars can have company visits and guest speakers.

There will be module-based seminars where the students work in groups and together in plenary. The students form permanent groups with which they work together throughout the semester.

The course will be conducted with seminars on campus. Attendance to seminars is mandatory, 4 out of 6 is required.

In addition, the students will work on a compulsory assignment (in groups of 2-4 students).

The course is taught mainly in Norwegian, compulsory submission and exam is in Norwegian.
