Professional Digital Competences in the School

SKOLE6302 Professional digital competences for school shall qualify the student to use digital learning- and teaching strategies in a didactical context. The course content consists of workshops with various media- and technological modes to teaching, including theory and discussions about what it means to be a child/adolescent in a digital age. The course content is divided into three central themes:
? learning areas and didactics in a digital age
? rooms for learning in a digital age
? the teacher as a mediator in formal and informal learning situations

Knowledge
The student
- has thorough knowledge about how societal digital development expands and transforms the school?s learning areas, content, working methods, and forms of assessment
- has specialized knowledge about digital technologies in a didactical context encompassing (self-)direction, space, and body
- has thorough knowledge about esthetic modes in teaching
- has advanced knowledge about digital areas that provide possibilities for, and at the same time challenges, participation in democratic and cultural processes
- has specialized knowledge about communication, target-group assessment, and audience awareness in a digital age
- has thorough knowledge about theory related to multimodality, fiction, virtual, and communication

Skills
The student
- can plan and carry out teaching with the use of digital media and technologies
- can work with digital and multimodal strategies in a didactical context
- can carry out teaching and learning in digital environments which promotes subject disciplinary, creative, and social learning processes
- can analyze and be critical to various sources of information, and draw upon these to structure and express subject-related arguments
- can carry out an original and scoped development project according to current standards in research ethics

General competence
The student
- can analyze relevant subject disciplinary, professional, and research ethical issues
- can apply own knowledge and skills in new fields to carry out advanced tasks and projects
- can communicate own work thoroughly and master various digital modes of expression
- can communicate subject-related issues, analysis, and conclusions about professional digital competence in school
- has abilities to constructively contribute in collaborative, dialogical processes with other actors
- can contribute to critique and developmental work of, and within general subject didactics through the application of professional digital competence

- Workshops and group-work with media- and technological modes to learning, including observation tasks
- Carry out a lesson plan at own institution with the aid of digital strategies, including presentation related to own lesson plan
- Written task with analysis of own lesson plan related to PDC in school
