Anthropological Perspectives on Sex and Gender

Gender is an important organizing principle in society and culture. This course provides an insight into how gender is constructed and maintained at different levels – socially and symbolically. The course takes feminist theory as its point of departure and discusses gender in relation to themes such as kinship, modernity and the body.

To acquire analytical skills in the study of gender relations.

Lectures/seminars (approx. 18 hours). The course may be offered in English if necessary. If one exchange student is english speaking and register within the beginning of the semester, teaching in english can be guaranteed. 4-hour written exam.
