Ethnographic Method

Which anthropological methods should you be applying for your master thesis? Which methods are you planning to use during your field research? In this course, you are challenged to identify the relationship between your chosen topic of research, research questions and methods to be used for collecting data in a systematic and ethically responsible manner. The course will address general methodological approaches in the social sciences as well as the unique nature of the ethnographic method including the anthropological research process.

Upon completing this course, you will have advanced knowledge of ethnography as qualitative method, besides working knowledge of other qualitative methods. In addition, you have some knowledge in quantitative methods. You can also identify and reflect critically on issues related to ethical dilemmas pertaining to your own project design and investigation. Finally, you will be able to decide upon the methodological tools appropriate for your own research thematic.

Lectures, seminars and library course. Lectures will normally be given given in Norwegian.
