Field Work with Field Report

This course consists of independent research in the form of ethnographic fieldwork that will form the basis for the Master’s dissertation. If the student writes a theoretical dissertation, library research or other methods of data collection forms part of this course. At the end of the fieldwork the students write a field report providing an overview of the work that has been carried out, with a proposal for further work to be undertaken as part of the dissertation.

- Develop basic skills in participant observation and systematic data production.
- Acquire knowledge about different social life worlds by doing anthropological fieldwork where participant observation is central.
- Develop independent practical competence in data collection through participant observation, critical analysis of sources, and other methods
- Execute continuous disciplinary based evaluations for the choosing of methods and research questions during fieldwork
- Translate their own as well as others' experiences into text in an ethically sound and accountable way
- Socialise and communicate well with people of different socio-cultural backgrounds
- Change perspective and ask new questions in light of new knowledge

Fieldwork (6 months).
