Body, Emotion, Self and Experience

The course examines the significance of the human body in social practices and institutions. It deals with the social construction of persons, self, and emotions, and different modes of experience. The course examines perspectives from medical anthropology, habitus theory, phenomenological practice theory and gender theory.

To develop a basic understanding of different perspectives on the significance of the body in social and cultural contexts, as well as acquiring knowledge concerning cultural variation in the perception and conceptualization of the person, self and emotions.

Lectures/seminars and written assignments (approx. 24 hours).
Deadline approved written assignment: 1 November.
4-hour written exam.
