Social Organization and Formation of Identity

The course deals with the formation, expression, maintenance and change of identities, with a main focus on principles of social organization like kinship, ethnicity, gender and age. The course is compulsory for students working toward a bachelor's degree or the one year study program in social anthropology.

Students are made familiar with the various principles of social organization and differentiation, such as kinship, ethnicitiy, gender and age. In addition, they learn about the socio-cultural variation related to personal understandings, identity poltics and nationalism. Through work on a required written exercise, students will acquire skills in academic writing.
