Citizenship Education

The course contains teaching in key social science courses with relevance for teaching citizenship, among other things; democracy, political participation, welfare, modern media, political / social inclusion and exclusion, migration, equality and the meanings of gender. The teaching in SAM1020 will help to provide students with theoretical and empirical knowledge on the topic of citizenship in school. Emphasis will also be placed on students using the research literature in the course to shed light on experiences they themselves bring with them from the internship periods in the school this semester.

Knowledge goals - the student must:

• acquire research-based knowledge that will provide a basis for developing students in the school for citizenship through engagement, social and political participation

Skills goals - students should be able to:

• develop skills in academic writing and social science reflection by reading research literature to problematize and discuss current issues of citizenship education.

The teaching will consist of lectures that will include requirements for preparation and follow-up work. The course is organized flexibly so that the teaching activities that require attendance primarily take place during the weeks when the students are not in practice in the fifth semester. Three compulsory submissions of written assignments / work requirements. One of the work requirements will be linked to the first internship period, where it will be planned to use the syllabus in the course to discuss experiences from internships at school, while two of the work requirements will be set up as exercises for the exam.
