About this course

Content

The course deals with theoretical principles for advanced MRI techniques of relevance in clinics or research. Central topics are signal processing, Fourier transform, K-space data collection including non-Cartesian methods, methods for suppressing signals from fat, artifact reduction methods (for instance metal), and fast recording techniques (parallel imaging, multiband, etc.). Course content will be adapted to changes as a result of technological developments.

Learning outcomes

A candidate with a completed course must have obtained the following learning outcomes: The candidate:

Knowledge:

  • Understands MRI physics explained by mathematical models
  • Can explain advanced MR techniques commonly available with today's standard MR equipment

Skills:

  • Be able to use mathematical models to explain MRI theory
  • Be able to apply their theoretical basis to understand how advanced MRI techniques will work on clinical systems

General competence:

  • Be able to communicate independent work and master the professional expression
  • Be able to assess whether new MR methods and techniques are feasible
  • Have an overview of the most important and common advanced technologies

Teaching methods

Lectures on campus and group work with mandatory submissions. Learning resources are made available via the web (E-learning platform): articles, links, short films (animations, lectures, etc.), self-tests, answers to assignments and discussion forums with students and teachers.
