About this course

Content

The course contains 5 topics: MR physics with contrast mechanisms (T1, T2, T2*, contrast agents), MRI hardware, MR safety, image formation and MR pulse sequences. In addition; literature search, scientific writing and e-learning platform.

Learning outcomes

Candidates that completed the course should have achieved:
The student:

Knowledge:
Can describe the hardware of an MRI scanner
Understands and can describe the basic physics of MRI
Can explain the reasons for contrast in MR images
Can explain theoretical and practical safety issues of an MRI examination
Understands and can describe different pulse sequences
Understands the mechanisms for image formation in MRI

Skills:
Can evaluate imaging parameters and perform image optimalization
Can describe and apply different pulse sequences
Can search for relevant literature and write assignments according to scientific guidelines

General competence:
Can apply MRI theory for practical MR imaging purposes
Can reflect and communicate on professional topics within the course cntent

Teaching methods

Lectures on campus and group assignments. Lectures are being held over 3-4 days early in the semester. Students must deliver and receive approval on 5 compulsory assignments. Course material will be available through the e-learning platform; scientific papers, links to web-pages, short movies (animations, lectures), tests and discussion boards with students and lecturers.
