Advanced Foundations for Group Process Facilitation

The course will give the student deepened theoretical knowledge about group dynamics. The course provides the student with training in making observations and asking open questions on a group level. Furthermore, the course will give the student practice in self-reflection on their role as a facilitator and as part of a team.

After completing the course Specialisation in the facilitation of group processes, related to the course Experts in teams, the student will have gained knowledge and skills necessary to facilitate cooperation in cross-disciplinary teams. The student will master the different methods of observation and intervention in interdisciplinary team collaboration processes. The student's practice is based on knowledge of theories about how and why facilitation is performed, and provides a basis for understanding facilitation in Experts in team. The student will practice making interventions in multidisciplinary teams that contribute to groups developing an effective group interaction. Based on their knowledge and skills about group facilitation, the student will build their cooperative skills. Through feedback and reflection, the student will have gained awareness about themselves in the role as a facilitator and as part of a team.

Lectures will be given as seminars both in autumn and spring semester. Lectures will be given in English and Norwegian. In addition, the student will train in and practice facilitation in between the seminars, either as a learning assistant or on another appropriate arena. An important part of the learning process is the situations that arise in the student’s facilitation practice. The student develops an understanding for teams, themselves and facilitation skills through reflection on these situations throughout the course, and together with the other students at the seminars. In addition, the student will practice giving and receiving feedback, and then reflect about these situations, in order to gain awareness about their role as a team member.

In order to get RAD3700 approved instead of EiT in a master's degree, the student has to be an EiT-learning assistant (practical requirement). This means the student must be an EiT-learning assistant twice: once before taking RAD3700 (required previous knowledge) and once while attending RAD3700 (practical requirement). NB: If the course is used in a bachelor's degree it cannot be part of a master's degree.
