Main Training

During the external internship the students will be given placements at various workplaces for psychologists and will be engaged in psychologist tasks under the supervision of an experienced psychologist. External internship lasts for 24 weeks. In addition to this, they must participate in a two week seminar; ”Public administration and management” and ”Psychological discipline ethics and legal regulations of psychological practice”. The seminars requires 80 % obligatory attendance.
The external internship will give students the opportunity to integrate psychological theory with psychological practice, and experience how psychological theory and method can be used and adapted to the tasks of the psychologist working area.
Possible internship placements are workplaces related to Health activity. This can involve different types of practice such as child and adult and older psychology, neuropsychology, family counseling and substance abuse treatment. Methods and theoretical challenges will therefore be very different depending on the placement. The internship will be an opportunity for learning and for developing various types of knowledge depending on the type of problem area.
Although the students during the internship will practice psychological tasks under supervision, it is expected that they primarily will function on their own depending on their professional and personal prerequisites.

Students will be evaluated and their performance approved according to specific guidelines. There will be direct contact among the university, student and supervisor during the internship.

Knowledge:
The student can apply relevant theories within psychology depending on relevant problems in different jobs.
The student can implement psychological work under guidance.
Skills:
The student can integrate theoretical and practical skills when it comes to later independent work.
General competence:
The student has competence when it comes to applying and developing the methodological competence within different areas of psychology.

Two hours tutorial guidance per week during the period, of which one of them individual. Two compulsory seminars are also included:
1. Psychological discipline ethics and legal regulations of the psychological practice (24 hours).
2. Public administration and management (36 hours).
This course is evaluated according to the Guidelines for the implementation and evaluation of clinical practice.
