Personality Psychology - Theory and Method

The course is a higher level course within personality psychology (theory and methodology). Syllabus and teaching will cover the main personality theories including characteristics theories, psychodynamic theories, learning theories, biological theories, cognitive and humanistic/existential theories.
Central issues, concepts and empirical research results in selected thematic fields within personality psychology, with a spesific emphazise on the application of clinical practice. The dividing line between normal functioning and pathology will be fronted. Scientific personality tests will be demonstrated and their application and practice will be discussed. Emphazised is also the ability to self reflection within the area.

Knowledge:
The student has advanced knowledge regarding the main theories in personality psychology.
The student has thorough knowledge regarding main definitions and empiricism from personality psychology, and especially when it comes to clinical practice.
The student understands the difference between normal functioning and pathology.
Skills:
The student knows the use of different personality tests.
The student has developed the ability to use, independently, existing theories and methods within the field.
General competence:
The student knows how to communicate independent work and controls the form of creative expressions within the field.
