Clinical Practice 2 - Adults

In addition to the students gaining experience with psychological treatment of adults, they will, through intern clinical practice, encounter varied issues and different work tasks relevant to their later professional practice as a psychologist in the therapist role. The supervision shall include, among other things, clinical examinations, diagnostic assessments, establishing contact, alliance, designing and implementing treatment plans, as well as the development of working relationships, termination and evaluation of therapy. Case presentation in plenary is an important element in the discussion of issues related to assessment, planning and implementation of the course of treatment both theoretically and methodically. Journaling is also part of the training. Approval of internal practice takes place in accordance with separate guidelines for practice.

Knowledge:

The student

• can apply knowledge of psychological assessment and treatment of adults in clinical work with adults• can apply knowledge of the health and welfare system, laws, regulations and guidelines, and integrate all this into their clinical work with adults

Skills:

The student

• can independently carry out basic structured psychological assessments as a basis for both diagnostic assessments and case formulations, and prepare treatment plans with recommendations for further action and treatment of adults
• can document assessment, diagnostics, and treatment of adults in patients’ journals, in accordance with current regulations
• can use different methods to secure feedback from patients on treatment outcome, process and alliance, and apply this to tailor treatment of adults
• can analyze and relate critically to complex professional issues, different roles and opportunities in the work with different types of mental disorders, and to interaction and task distribution between service levels in clinical work with adults
• can independently use relational skills that are central to the establishment and maintenance of therapeutic and collaborative alliances with adults
• can analyze and relate critically to their own values, roles and functioning in meetings with adults and partners, and seek assistance when needed
• The student can give fellow students and future colleagues constructive assessments of their therapeutic interventions and attitudes
• The student can receive and benefit from constructive feedback from fellow students and supervisors

General competence:

The student

• can independently examine, diagnose, and treat mental difficulties and disorders amongst adults, and evaluate the effect of initiated interventions

• can apply their knowledge and skills independently to plan, implement and evaluate various evidence-based therapeutic interventions for adults with mild, moderate, and severe mental disorders, both at the individual, family, and group level

• can apply their knowledge and skills to integrate research, clinical expertise and patient characteristics and goals to adapt assessment and treatment of adults

• can communicate a treatment rationale to adult patients/users, and use different methods to ensure adult patients/users' involvement in, and choice about, their own assessment and treatment

• can communicate openly about gender, sexuality and sexual health and apply his/her knowledge of these topics in their professional practice with adults

• can apply their psychological knowledge and skills for their own self-care

• can apply relevant digital competence and technology in professional work, and assist in the development of suitable technology at both individual and system level, as well as safeguard digital security

• can communicate orally, in writing and digitally about adult health-related issues with employees, partners and the general public

Clinical practice under supervision. Individual activity in the form of group work, case presentations and individual supervision. There is no syllabus attached to the subject.
