Content
Important concepts in this course include cultural cognition, opinion/meaning, (visual) emotion, fascination and identification. These are central themes in new research on the public. The relationship of the public to the global media community, communication as
a social process and also as methods in media and communications psychology are also central themes in the course. Media products for children and adolescents are of special interest in this course since young people are often the pioneers in the establishment of new media products. However, the processes and concepts which will be discussed are relevant in order to understand how and why human use of media is more common. The course will also make use of problem-based activities in order to increase the reflection level of actual problems in cutting edge fields including media science, communication and psychology.
Learning outcomes
The course gives insight into human use of the media and will specifically focus on which psychological mechanisms and processes and at work in the publics daily encounter with the modern media, experience in carrying out a project in the subject area.
Teaching methods
Teaching method and activities: Lectures, seminars, field work, supervision.
Form of assessment: Project work (A through F).
