Environmental Communication

The course gives a broad introduction to environmental psychology and provides the basics in this field. Basic psychological mechanisms of environmental decision-making, behaviour change, perception of environmental problems, environmental communication, and effects of environments on people are introduced and applied to real world challenges as they typically occur in a job context. Environmental psychological intervention techniques are presented, linked to theory and research findings, and applied to job relevant questions.

- The student has an advanced understanding of relevant theories, empirical studies and methods within the field of environmental psychology.

- The student has thorough knowledge about communication processes and tools in relation to environmental challenges.

- The student has a specialized deeper understanding within a self-selected field of environmental psychology.

- The student is capable of analyzing and reflecting about different problems/research questions within environmental psychology based on conceptualizations and theoretical models.

- The student has experience with how to use theories and empirical studies from the field of environmental psychology to analyze, reflect, think critical, and solve both theoretical and practical problems within environmental communication as they would occur in a job context.

- The student is able to develop relevant research questions and write an independent theoretical term paper.

- The student is able to search for literature in the central databases in order to choose scientific relevant literature.

- The student is able to perform an independent good oral and written presentation of theories and empirical studies in the field of environmental psychology.

- The student is able to exercise a critical, analytical and innovative approach applicable to knowledge and practice within environmental psychology and communication.

- The student is able to use his or her expertise and skills in new, job-related fields in order to answer new problems in the environmental domain.

- The student is able to reflect, communicate and present technical problems, and analyze and conclude within the field.

Lectures, group work, supervision. Exam registration requires that class registration is approved in the same semester, or that compulsory activities are approved in a previous semester.
