Specialization in personality psychology

This course constitutes a continuation and deepening of theoretical and empirical personality psychology, such as the etiology of personality, the most central personality theories, covariation with other psychological traits, and different levels of analysis of personality. In this course, the main focus is on normal variation in psychology. Development of the ability to reflect independently within a self-selected area is emphasized.

Knowledge:

• The candidate has advanced theoretical, empirical and applied knowledge within personality psychology and can apply relevant research literature in a theoretical, empirical and practical context.

• The candidate has knowledge of the etiology of personality and its relationship with other psychological traits.

• The candidate can analyze personality variation from different levels of analysis, from evolution and genetics to psychodynamics and autobiographical aspects.

• The candidate has knowledge of how personality interact with other factors in inhibiting and promoting people's health, education, work participation and living conditions throughout the life course

Skills:

• The candidate can independently analyze and critically evaluate theories, methods and research results within personality psychology

• The candidate can analyze and apply knowledge from personality psychology in new areas within psychological research and practice

General competence:

• The candidate can use knowledge from personality psychology to contribute to idea generation and research

• The candidate can discuss and convey personality psychology knowledge (e.g. central theories, issues and discussions) to other professional groups, specialists and the general public
