Semester Assignment for Basic Psychological Diciplines

The course shall provide a foundational introduction into how one formulates and writes an academic assignment, based on a specific area within the field of psychology’s basic sciences. This involves teaching students how one identifies and develops an academic research question, conducts a literature search, and structures an assignment for psychological research. The course shall also provide an introduction into the use of sources and referencing techniques, according to the applicable APA-guidelines. The course gives students a base for further academic communication, which is not only relevant for the rest of their undergraduate programme in Psychology, but also for their academic studies in general. In addition, this shall provide students with a wide variety of options, regarding their choice of an area to specialise in.

After having completed this course, the candidate will have acquired the following knowledge, skills and general competence:

Knowledge:

The student has a foundational knowledge of how one formulates and writes an academic assignment. The student has a knowledge of a limited area in one of the basic sciences within the field of psychology.

Skills:

The student can identify and formulate a relevant, academic research question within the field of psychology. The student can carry out a literature search that is connected to a specific research question. The student can apply their knowledge of psychology to answer an academic research question. The student can use the correct referencing techniques in line with the applicable APA-guidelines. The student has a strong command of digital referencing tools. The student can reflect on their own, and others’, academic practices and utilise the feedback they receive from others.

General competence:

The student can apply both psychological theory and empirical data from a chosen, basic topic. The student can communicate about core subject matter within the field of psychology, both orally and in writing. The student can plan and carry out a piece of structured academic work.
