Methodological Psychology

The course provides an introduction to the scientific method and its use in psychological research. More specifically, the course will address the fundamental issues in both quantitative and qualitative approach. The themes, in both quantitative and qualitative approaches will be linked to the research process, including the generation of research ideas, research design (experiments, qualitative design, etc.), data collection (selection, design of the interview / questionnaire etc.), data analysis (descriptive statistics, bivariate analyzes, coding and categorization of text data, etc.), reporting and ethical issues in research.

Knowledge:
The student has developed a basic understanding of and familiarity with the scientific mindset, terminology and procedure in both qualitative and quantitative research in psychology.

Skills:
The student can evaluate and understand both qualitative and quantitative work which deals with various topics in psychology.

General competence:
The student has developed the ability to apply methodological concepts in the analysis of different types of knowledge and dissemination of this writing. (everyday, research-based, etc.).

Lectures 2 hours per week, assignments, colloquium.
Some lectures might be given in English.
