French-Pragmatic Analysis and Theoretical Reflection

This is a PhD subject in French-pragmatic analysis and theoretical reflection. Philosophy and research based on French pragmatic sociology is introduced. The subject will address both the conceptual and the practical when data is to be summarized, analyzed and interpreted.
French pragmatism is the philosophy and the action theory developed by Luc Boltanski & Laurent Thévenot in the 80's and 90's. The French pragmatic perspective takes into account the role dignity, critique and legitimization signifies in the development of modern organizations and communities.
The main objective in the course is two-fold:
1. To advance the understanding of the French pragmatic sociology
2. To explore a variety of empirical projects in which the French approach has been engaged. Special attention will be given to projects using the pragmatic approach in analysis of education. The course combines lectures and discussions.
Participants are divided into two groups, one aimed at education and a general group of philosophy, sociology and related subjects. The groups will have joint lectures, but they will follow different supervisors and counseling groups.

- Is able to read and comment on other researchers / fellow student’s choice of analytical methods
