About this course
Content
Fundamentals of metal cutting processes like turning, milling, drilling, and grinding. Chip formation, cutting forces, power consumption, and temperatures in metal cutting. Machine tools, tool materials, tool wear, cutting fluids, cutting data, and economical considerations. Surface integrity. Electro discharge machining and electrochemical machining. Machining with laser, electro beam, ultrasound, and water jet.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge:
Knowledge about different metal cutting processes and mechanics of metal cutting. Knowledge about nonconventional machining processes. Knowledge about models for machining economics. Knowledge about vibrations and vibration damping in metal cutting processes.
Skills:
Be able to plan and carry out experiment to improve metal cutting processes. Be able to calculate process parameters for optimal dynamic conditions.
General competence:
Have the competence to develop and improve manufacturing processes through theoretical analysis and experimental work.
