About this course
Content
Module: Specialization in safety, reliability and maintenance.
Central theme:
- Definition and discussion of basic concepts within risk analysis.
- Calculation of risk.
- Safety objectives and decision criteria.
- Qualitative and quantitative methods for risk analysis, such as rough analysis, HAZOP, FMECA, fault tree analysis, event tree analysis, etc.
- Analysis of human errors and organizational factors.
- Data sources and uncertainty.
- Regulations, standards and guidelines.
- Risk reduction and cost/benefit analyses. - Risk analyzes within various industries and applications
Learning outcomes
Knowledge:
The student has knowledge of what a risk analysis is, how a risk analysis is carried out, common and advanced methods used and how risk analysis is used in risk management.
Skills:
The student can carry out risk analyzes of various issues and interpret and present the results of the analysis as a contribution to decisions about risk.
General competence:
The student understands risk analysis's place in decision-making processes, value selection related to the use of safety objectives and decision criteria, trade-offs between risk and other values, and how risk analysis can be used and misused.
Teaching methods
The subject is carried out in two sessions of three days each with lectures, group work and discussions. Great emphasis is placed on discussions and the transfer of experience between the participants. Between the two sessions there are self-studies, and an assignment that consists of carrying out a risk analysis on a self-selected topic with guidance via the internet.
