About this course
Content
Methods for analyzing flow of fluids in dual porosity (fractured) reservoirs. Subjects covered are: Classification of reservoirs with dual porosity. Physical properties with emphasis on absolute and relative permeability and capillary pressure. Modeling of one- and two-phase flow. Drive mechanisms with emphasis on water drive (spontaneous and forced imbibition). Production models.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge: The course shall provide fundamental understanding of the physical and mathematical basis for different models describing double porosity media and fluid flow in such media.
Skills: The students shall be able to develop or refine models for double porosity media and to implement models into specific applied problems. The students shall be able to see limitations of existing models and they should be able to perform a critical analysis of literature within the area.
General competence: The students should understand the main principles applied in the analysis of reservoirs with double porosity and be able to relate these to more general situations (like heterogeneous reservoirs). The students should also learn to read scientific articles, search for literature and thereby be able to define the present research front.
Teaching methods
Lectures and exercises, or self study.
