About this course

Content

Principles and philosophy behind building a knowledge model within a subject (ontology engineering); Method and modelling of specific knowledge (cases); Use of general and specific knowledge for solving problems, planning and for learning.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge:
- About a selected topic within petroleum engineering.
- General knowledge building (ontology engineering).
- Modeling techniques related to specific knowledge (case).
- Unwanted events and their symptoms.
- Relationships between events, symptoms and general knowledge.
- Commercial tools for building and evaluation of knowledge.


Skills:
- Structuring and building of selected general knowledge.
- Structuring and building of specific knowledge (cases).
- Analyze data and recognize symptoms and failures.
- Reveal the root cause of unwanted events.

General competence:
Evaluate failures in a process and be able to suggest improvements and counter measures on basis of general and specific knowledge

Teaching methods

Colloquium, discussions, small projects. Deadlines: Three assignments should be submitted for evaluation and further work, on the last day of September, October and November. Each student will build his/her own domain model, own cases (minimum 5 with different but related content). Matching between new and existing cases will be tested. To pass the course a score of at least 70 percent is required.
