About this course

Content

Relations between reservoir parameters and seismic parameters. Requirements for acquisition of time lapse seismic data. Processing of time lapse seismic data. Repeatability and matching. What can change in addition to reservoir properties? Relation between repeated well logs and repeated seismic data. Coupling to fluid flow simulation. Differencing techniques. Use of seabed seismic data for reservoir monitoring. Techniques for time shift estimation and determination of changes in pay thickness. Monitoring of fluid movements. Methods for discrimination between pressure and fluid saturation effects. How to estimate compaction changes in a reservoir. Field examples.

Learning outcomes

Ingress: The students should know the basics of seismic reservoir monitoring.
Knowledge: The students should understand the objective of seismic reservoir monitoring, and know the critical factors required to acquire high quality repeated seismic data. They should also know which production related parameters that are most sensitive to seismic data, and attain knowledge on methods for discriminating between for instance saturation and pressure changes within a reservoir.
Skills: The students should know how to derive and apply equations that are used to process and analyze repeated seismic data. They should know various techniques used to analyze repeated seismic data, and particulary know how amplitude changes and timeshifts are estimated and interpreted.
General knowledge: The students should know the basic principles used in seismic reservoir monitoring, and be capable of applying this knowledge in a reservoir management perspective. They should also know how to read scientific papers, perform a literature search and be able to grasp the contours of the research front.

Teaching methods

Lectures, excercises and group work. The course is taught every second year. Minimum four candidates must register for exam within the deadline if the course is to be taught.
