Social-psychological Perspectives in Teaching and Learning

This course sheds light on schooling and learning from a social psychological perspective. The concepts of group and group dynamics are sentral, and important areas which will be dealt with includes: self-consept, motivation, social competance, attitudes, values, roles and gender. Emphasis will be put on understanding these conceptions, the relationship between them and the processes that influence them. Moreover, emphasis will be put on circumstances in both learning environment (i.e., school and sports) and society that are important to these processes. Although theoretical understandings are important, the practical implications will also be central.

The aim of the course is to give insight into social psychological processes that are important to learning for children and adolescents in different learning areas.

Teaching method and activities: 2 hours of lectures per week, 1 hour seminar per week. Teaching methods includes; lectures, discussions, roleplay and practical training.

Form of assessment: 4-hour individual written exam.

If less than 10 students sign up for the course it may be canceled.
