Pedagogical Knowledge and Curriculum Theory

Didactics is the theoretical and practical knowledge about teaching. The course will give an introduction into concepts and theoretical models that are fundamental for the analysis and understanding of the relation between processes of teaching, formation and learning. The course will give an introduction to how teaching is assessed and developed. Central themes are educational aims, knowledge content and teaching methods. There is an emphasis put on understanding the frames for teaching and learning from a social and cultural perspective. This will furthermore be studied in the tensions between a national curriculum and the possibilities of local action and decision-making. Different perspectives on the relationship between teachers, students and the learning content will be emphasized in the course.

The course is obligatory in order to achieve full specialization in education studies.

Through lectures and group activity the students are going to acquire insights into and an understanding of the fundamental concept of didactics/curriculum theory. The students must also be able to document insight into how culture, policy and economy influences school as an institution, it`s objectives, working methods, curriculum content and assessment practices. The students should also be able to deliberate on what functions education has for pupils and society. The students must have insight into and the ability to deliberate, in writing, on questions relevant to education today an how we may best develop learning environments and teaching in an education for all.

Up to 6 hours teaching pr. week. Compulsory assignment.

Compulsory activities: Compulsory assignment must be approved before the student can take the exam. Details about the compulsory assignments will be published on Canvas.
