Special Subject in Scandinavian Linguistics

The course gives a theoretical specialization in one or more topics in Scandinavian linguistics. The course explores a topic in one subfield of linguistics (e.g. grammar, pragmatics, sociolinguistics), or an interdisciplinary topic spanning more than one of those subfields. The course may build upon themes explored in lower-level courses.

Knowledge

Candidates who have passed this course:

• have in-depth understanding of a topic of central importance in Scandinavian linguistics
• have critical insight into scientific approaches and methods relevant to the analysis of the subject material

Skills

Candidates who have passed this course:

• can use relevant theoretical notions and specialist scientific literature from the relevant discipline(s)
• are able to write substantial analytical and/or argumentative texts according to academic norms for the use of sources, quotations, references etc.

Lectures and/or seminars.

Obligatory assignments: Up to two obligatory written assignments or oral presentations. The requirements for these assignments will be determined by the course instructor, and this information will be made available at the beginning of the semester. Assignments must be written in nynorsk.

Approved obligatory assignments are valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester).
