Cell Culture Methods in Neurotoxicology

Course description:
The course is to give an introduction to current methods for examining neurotoxicity using cell cultures. In addition to growing cell lines, the candidate is to attempt one or several of the methods for assessing toxicity used in our laboratory. The safe use of radioactive isotopes is covered in the course. Basic knowledge in biochemistry and cell biology is desirable, but courses in toxicology may be taken parallel with this course.

Course objectives:
The candidate is to participate in growing cell cultures. Examination in light microscope and measuring cytotoxic indicators e.g. protein, mitochondrium activity, cell membrane integrity. The practical use of radioactive isotopes is presented. The student is to plan and carry out an experiment.
