Master's Thesis in Media, Communication and Information Technology

The Master Thesis must include a scientific analysis of a topic within the framework of media, communication and information technology. The thesis should be between 50-55 pages and must not exceed 22 000 words (table of contents, reference list and attachments are excluded).

The student must participate in the compulsory master's thesis seminars. Supervision constitutes a substantial part of the work with the thesis. This ensures that the student is offered the necessary knowledge and involves an essential control of the collecting and treatment of data, within ethical research guidelines. Supervision is therefore a compulsory component of the programme for students who wish to submit a master's thesis.

Knowledge - the student shall:

• learn how to carry out independent research.
• through the master's seminars and supervision receive an insight into the different steps of the research process: engage in constructive and critical evaluation of others research, plan research, collect data, analysis and presentation.

Skills - the student shall demonstrate the ability to:

• carry out independent research.
• through work on a master's thesis, acquire skills that are useful not only in relation to research but also in relation to information and communication, journalism and media work, investigative work, teaching, etc.

Compulsory master's thesis seminars and supervision.

The master's seminar takes place in both the autumn and spring semester. Students in the 2nd year must participate in the entire master's seminar. Students in the 1st year must participate in parts of the master's seminar in the autumn semester.

The subject of the thesis must be approved by the department. Every student must sign a master's thesis agreement which, among other things, regulates supervision. The master's thesis agreement must be submitted before January 10 in the spring semester. The thesis has a deadline and must be submitted before 21 weeks (including Easter) has passed after submission of the master's thesis agreement. The deadline of the thesis is therefore June 6 in the spring semester.
