Specialization Subject I

This course is research-based, which means that the content varies according to the current research focus of the course leader. The course structure provides insight into the academic research process, showcasing theories and methodologies as applied to current research questions. This is a good preparation for the students’ own research practice in connection with their master’s thesis.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will have:
- thorough insight into a specific area within media studies in the humanities
– in-depth knowledge of theories and methods relevant to the specific research area explored in the course, which are transferable to other areas of media research
– insight into research areas and theories closely connected to the course leader’s own research.

Students will be able to
– understand the investigative processes and research methods used in the project
– discuss and assess scholarly texts and research findings in light of the theories and methods applied to the research area explored in the course at any one time.

Lectures, seminar and individual supervision.

More on assessment: The final assessment is based on a letter-graded term paper of about 6 000 - 8 000 words (15 - 20 pages) and a oral presentation of the work. The presentation can adjust the mark of the written work.

Students are required to keep updated on relevant information from the department or lecturer via It's learning and Innsida.
