About this course

Content

The course covers interactive textual and audiovisual digital media as communicated through digital networks or by the use of optical and magnetic storage media (e.g. Internet and CD/DVD). An essential requirement in the development of these media has been the idea of linkable and spatial non-linear texts, known under the collective term “hypertext”.

Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide insight into interactive digital media, with hypertext as a basic explanatory model. The course will provide an introduction to web publishing and the various types and formats of multimedia. A general introduction to the term hypertext will be given, with media and cultural history as the starting point.

Teaching methods

Lectures, laboratory exercises, seminars, including tutoring and feedback on written exercises and oral presentations.

Course requirements:
Approved participation in laboratory exercises, with a required 80% attendance.

More on the form of assessment:
The final assessment is based on a project description, one essay, and one semester assignment consisting of designing a web page. These three tasks are developed with the teacher's assent. The project description and the essay are each weighted 1/6 of the final grade, while the semester assignment counts as 4/6.

All components of the assessment must be passed.

Students are required to keep abreast of the results of exercise assignments posted on the department's bulletin boards.

Students are required to keep posted on relevant messages from the department or the teacher at It's learning and Innsida, alternatively at course web pages or bulletin boards.
