Aesthetics of Visual Media

The syllabus covers literature in the areas of analysis, theory, and history. A historical perspective is primarily developed in connection to analytical and theoretical issues of 20th century visual culture. An essential part of the syllabus on historical, analytical, and theoretical themes are collected in a compendium. In addition to academic literature, the syllabus also includes several film, video, and television productions. The term "Estetisk kommunikasjon" indicates an emphasis on the interests of aesthetic expressions as communication.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will have insight into Modernism. This includes significant problems during the 20th century theoretical debates on visual expressions as a form of communication, on the aesthetic aspect of visual expressions, as well as the culturally conditioned ways of expression and influence in means of communication.

This course is taught in Norwegian only.

Lectures and seminars.

Compulsory assignment:
Students must pass an oral presentation with written documentation before final assessment can be made.

More on the form of assessment:
The method of assessment will be a 6 hour written examination.

Students are required to pay attention to the results of exercise assignments on the department bulletin boards.

The students are required to keep posted on relevant messages from the department or the teacher at It's learning and Innsida, or bulletin boards.
