Arne Nordheim, Aesthetics and Context

The course centers on art musical development over the last 50 years with the Norwegian composer Arne Nordheim (1931-2010) as the point of departure. We will delve in Nordheims music, and look at his works as an expression of the musical culture in our present. The course will be useful for those who wish to delve deeper into music and aesthetical problems from the second half of the 1900s.

Knowledge:
An examinee with a completed qualification in MUSV3100
- has in-depth knowledge about Arne Nordheims life and works
- has general knowledge of art music history the last 50 years
- has knowledge of particular challenges with score reading and listening to contemporary music
- has knowledge about key issues in contemporary music history

Skills:
An examinee with a completed qualification in MUSV3100
- can express his/her deepened knowledge in a convincing way, both in writing and speech
- can make his/her own reflections based on, and in the extension of the acquired knowledge
- can utilise the acquired knowledge about analytical tools and research methods on material new and unknown for the examinee
- can reflect about his/her own professional behaviour and is able to adjust it under guided supervision
