Advanced Subjects

The subject can be from all parts of musicology, such as ethnomusicology, folk music, popular music, music in movies, history of music, music pedagogy and so forth. The subjects offered will vary from semester to semester.

Even if the subjects offered vary, course codes can only be used once. Students who register for a course in which they have already passed the final examination, will thereby register for a retake of an already passed examination, regardless of the valid syllabus/reading list.

Knowledge:
An examinee with a completed qualification in MUSV3012
- has in-depth knowledge about a selected musicological subject
- has general knowledge of the musicological area the advanced subject belongs to
- has knowledge about historical and newer problems within the specific musicological area of research
- has knowledge of theories and research methods within the specific musicological area of research
- has knowledge that enables a placement of the specific musicological field of research into the larger frame of scientific theory and reflexion

Skills:
An examinee with a completed qualification in MUSV3012
- can express his/her deepened knowledge in a convincing way, both in writing and speech
- can individually find and assess relevant research based knowledge to illuminate a problem within the specific musicological area of research
- can based on his/her deepened knowledge discuss academic texts in a diversified way, enter a dialogue with the texts of others and carry out his/her own reasoning, both in writing and speech
- can utilize methods specific to the musicological area on an independent and critical basis

Lectures and a syllabus, both for reading and for analysis, combined with practical exercises where this is relevant for the content and focus of the course. Note: An attachment to the examination registration that details the topic for the specialisation must be submitted to the Department (same deadline as the examination registration). Forms are available at the Department. The paper for the home examination has a maximum length of 20 typed pages (1.5, 12pkt).
