Theory of Musicology

The course provides an introduction to, and a discussion of, selected methods of analysis, in the areas of both art and ethnomusicology. These methods are applied to music of various periods and cultures.

The main objective of the course is to provide a survey of selected musicological methods of analysis. The student is given a methodical foundation for her/his Master's thesis or other academic work.

Lectures.
Assessment: One written assignment is submitted during the semester, assessed through the grade pass/fail.
The assignment can be written individually or in groups of 2-4 students. The assignment must be 8-12 pages long and be presented orally in class, before it is handed in for final assessment.
