Liturgical Organ Playing B

The course covers different aspects of liturgical organ play:

• choral playing
• liturgical parts
• hymn prelude/intonation
• choral-related improvisation
• free-form organ improvisation

Work on liturgical playing on other keyboard instruments (especially piano and Hammond organ):

• "Rhythmic" repertoire from the hymnals (spirituals, gospel, "songs of the worldwide church")

Knowledge: The candidate:

• has knowledge of church singing
• has a understanding of style within various church musical traditions

Skills: The candiate:

• has proficiency in liturgical organ playing
• has skills in liturgical organ improvisation
• has skills in free organ improvisation
• has proficiency in liturgical playing within the rhythmic traditions of piano and other keyboard instruments, including improvisational skill

Lessons in groups. Extensive individual work effort and practice on the instrument.

Instruction is obligatory and demands minimum 80% attendance.
