Principal Instrument Jazz B

The course requires significant independent study from students. Individual instruction includes instrumental skills with an emphasis on improvisation. The ensemble instruction includes repertoire development, practice in improvisation, conducting, and test technique. During the course the student will receive relevant studio training.

Compulsory courses:

• Secondary Instrument Jazz B: The secondary instrument is the drums. Drum players study the piano.
• Music presentation: The course includes preparation, performance, and evaluation of a tour. Each individual student must submit a project report at the end of the course.

Knowledge:

The candidate:

• has knowlegde aboute planning a tour, development of repertoire and the processes that is essential in the realisation of large consert-projects
• has knowledge about and controls relevant techniques in interpretation, practicing, musical performance preparations, and how to prevent body strain damages

Skills:

The candidate:

• has instrumental/vocal skills on a level that makes him/her able to carry out their artistic intentions
• shows artistic expression, and can relate to the audience in different settings
• can work goal-oriented and independent, alone and together with others
• takes initiative to play in ensembles, and shows ability to musical communication
• has skills in improvisation
• has basic skills in secondary instrument.

Individual instruction - one lesson a week for 24 weeks.

Group instruction - maximum 44 lessons in total for ensemble projects, provided in concentrated periods during the academic year.

Project - various forms of instruction.

Compulsory courses:

• Participation in projects, seminars and concerts is compulsory.
• Secondary Instrument Jazz B: Instruction: The equivalent of 0,5 to 1 hour group lessons per week for 24 weeks. The course is approved based on participation in compulsory instruction.
• Music Presentation: Instruction is presented as a project, in the equivalent of 2 lessons per week in practice groups formed into ensembles. The course is approved based on participation in compulsory instruction and submitted project report.
