About this course
Content
The course requires significant independent study. Individual instruction includes instrumental skills with an emphasis on improvisation. The ensemble instruction includes repertoire development, practice in improvisation, conducting, and technique. During the course the student will receive relevant studio training (not relevant for one-year church music students).
Compulsory course in Physiology: The course is comprised of health theory, physiology, prevention of strain injuries, as well as exercises in relaxation, concentration, and warming up. The course also includes preparations before performing.
Course in secondary instrument piano: All student in the first year jazz has piano as a secondary instrument, except the student that has piano as main instrument. Students with piano as main instrument receive drumset instruction.
Students in one-year church music has secondary instrument organ or piano and a mandatory course in liturgic playing.

Knowledge:
The candidate:
- Has knowledge about and controls relevant techniques in interpretation, practicing, musical performance preparations, and how to prevent body strain damages
Skills:
The candidate:
- has instrumental/vocal skills on a level that makes him/her able to carry out their artistic intentions
- can work goal-oriented and independent, alone and together with others
- takes initiative to play in ensembles, and shows ability to musical communication
- has skills in improvisation
- has basic skills in playing piano, organ or drumset
- has basic skills in liturgic playing (only for one-year church music students)
Teaching methods
Individual instruction - one lesson a week for 24 weeks.
Group instruction - up to 44 lessons in total for ensemble projects, provided in concentrated periods during the academic year.
Project - various forms of instruction.
Compulsory course in Physiology: Instruction: 1 lesson a week. Individual lectures, class lectures and groups- up to 25 hours.
Course in secondary instrument: 0.5 - 1 hours of instruction a week (individually or in groups) over two semesters (24 weeks). Individual exercise.
Course in liturgic playing: 0,5 - 1 hours for 24 weeks in group (only for one-year church music students)
