About this course
Content
Under guidance, the students must carry out a concert project relevant to working life after completing their studies. Practical experience in planning and implementation as well as evaluation of projects will give the students important tools they will need as project makers in a versatile future musician's life. Current topics are work in The Cultural Schoolbag, concert organizing, programming, stage performance, audience, social media, press releases, concert reviews, application writing, budgets, CV etc. The course will create interest, insight and understanding of how one, as a musician, can create and realize projects aimed at different audience groups, including children and young people. The course in entrepreneurship will create a consciousness about the processes required to create you own workplace. The course provides specialization in topics around the business, market, culture, industry and society, and strengthen awareness of their own arts. The course emphasizes expanding the entrepreneurial and communicative toolbox of musicians, strengthening their artistic practice, and fostering collaboration and teamwork.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge:
The candidate
- has knowledge of planning, implementing and evaluate concert projects
- has knowledge of appropriate techniques and strategies for preparing performing situations
- has experience in writing applications, CV, press releases and similar, and can reflect on how social media can be a tool in concert productions
- understands their own artistic expression and its relationship to the music industry, cultural infrastructures, and diverse audiences.
- possesses knowledge of event and concert production, promotion, relevant Norwegian funding schemes, as well as basic budgeting and accounting.
- is familiar with the roles and responsibilities of key actors in the music business, such as festival directors, record labels, PR agents, managers, and booking agencies.
Skills:
The candidate
- can work goal-oriented and independent, alone or together with others
- can plan and implement a concert project
- has experience in presenting and playing music in different performing situations
- has insight into strategies for creating her/his own workplace
- has knowledge of economic mechanisms and artistic challenges
- is prepared to cope with current and future music market
- can organize and manage artistic projects involving collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
- can apply both theoretical and practical knowledge of communication tools to effectively promote artistic work.
Teaching methods
- Lectures will be concentrated in some weeks, some in collaboration with MUSK4430
- Group tutoring in preparations for concert-project.
- Students will arrange necessary group preparations and practice towards the concert projects.
- Individual tutoring on the written assignment
Instruction is obligatory and demands minimum 80% satisfactory participation.
