About this course

Content

Aural training B is a continuation of Aural training A. The students work with the basic elements melody, rythm, harmony and sound, including improvisation in a broad specter of expressions from within a from the classical tradition to popular music, including modality and free-tonal music. By a performative approach, the subject aims to contribute to consciousness-raising and to make the many parameters of expression in music come to life, across the borders of styles and genre. Piano is a essential tool in the instruction.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge:

The candidate:

  • has knowledge about the distinctive features in different stylistic expressions of music, including scale, building chords, rhythm and other central parameters of expression
  • is highly conscious about the importance of aural skills in her/his own everyday life as a musician
  • has good strategies and methods for working with music based on the skills in aural training
  • has knowledge about several sources of knowledge, including books and digital tools.

Skills:

The candidate:

  • can learn and perform sonorous and/or written music based on listening and musical imagination
  • has trained skills in active listening and can reflect on a broad specter of stylistic and expressional characteristics in sonorous or written music
  • can use the ear and understanding of music in a performative perspective
  • can use piano as a visualizing tool in her/his work with aural training, and also master figure playing and simple accompaniment in different genres
  • can simplify a written accompaniment part

Teaching methods

Weekly instruction in groups, and 30 minutes per week group teaching on acoustic pianos. Chord symbols and simple accompaniment are emphasized.

Weekly compulsory exercises/assignments

The instruction is mandatory and requires a minimum of 80% satisfactory participation.
