Advanced Materials Science

The course intends to present new, relevant and advanced topics within modern materials science and engineering. The selection of topics will depend on the candidates. The course will be based on new original literature and will require an active participation from the candidates.

The candidates shall after having finished the course and passed the exam:

* Demonstrate extensive knowledge and skills related to selected topics covered by the course

* Be able to use this knowledge and skills to discuss and analyse relevant problems connected to these topics.

* Be able to prepare and present selected topics from the course in form of presentations for colleagues and fellow students.

The course normally requires that at least three candidates in collaboration with one or more professors define a suitable joint syllabus (to be approved by the PhD Programme Board of Research at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering). The teaching will be a combination of lectures, colloquia and self-study. The curriculum and examination date should be the same for all simultaneous candidates. The course is primary intended for PhD candidates at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. However, external candidates may be accepted into the course if it fits in with an already defined realisation. Expected time usage: Lectures: 20 hours, work on colloquia: 80 hours. Self-study: 120 hours. If there are fewer than three candidates, the course will be taught through colloquium work.
