About this course

Content

The course is given every second year, next time will be 2016/17.
Important topics are:
Double layer theory.
Electrode kinetics for charge transfer reactions.
Diffusion controlled electrode reactions.
Electrocatalysis (hydrogen evolution).
Electrocrystallisation/electrochemical nucleation.
Description of electrochemical techniques for studying electrode reactions (voltammetry, chronoamperometry, chronopotentiometry, rotating disc electrode, ac impedance)

Learning outcomes

The candidate should be able to understand the basic principles for using modern electrochemical methods for studies of kinetics. The candidate should be able to judge which experimental methods can be used to determine the mechanisms of electrode processes for various experimental setups. The candidate should be able to read and understand the contents of new publications related to the use of electrochemical methods.

Teaching methods

Lectures and discussion groups depending on the number of students. Laboratory demonstration experiments.
Voluntary exercises.
